Guest posting on external sites is a reliable way of gaining referral traffic, improving and expanding your brand recognition and increasing your SEO ranks. There are some misconceptions that sponsored guest posts can be risky. This isn't the case as long as they aren't used to pass page rank, but instead are used to attract direct traffic. You can make that clear by disclosing that the article is sponsored and mark any links with a "nofollow" designation.
